Sunday 10 Aug And they're off!  Andreas and Mark left 5am this morning to climb Alexander Block via the snow gully and ridge (see pic). After losing two ropes in bad weather during their night descent of Petrogradetz on Monday, we were unsure about the teams objectives due to not enough gear, but according to Andreas they apparently managed to get hold of some "rope and ice screws from the Russsians. YAY." He also gave some more info on the Petrogradetz route, which I'll quote verbatim: SUMMIT @ 4:30PM. 23 PITCHES @ GRADE 20A1. WE HOPE NEW ROUTE BUT FOUND PEGS ON ONE PITCH. MUST RESEARCH. ABSEILED THROUGH THE NIGHT. REACHED TENT 6AM. Sooooo, once again folks, we await the gooood news!!!! Cheers! |
