"When we reach the mountain summits we leave behind all the things that weigh heavily on our body and our spirit. We leave behind all sense of depression; we feel a new freedom, a great exhilaration of the body no less than the spirit."

UIAA INTERNATIONAL YOUTH MEETS

Excellent annual opportunities exist for children of MCSA members and youth MCSA members to attend UIAA International Youth Meets.
These meets are hosted by different member organisations of the UIAA (mostly the ones based in Europe) and cater for different age groups (usually between 15 and 25-years-old, sometimes from
5-years-old) and different activities (hiking, climbing, kloofing, etc). The meets are usually scheduled to take place in Europe's summer holidays, July to September, and there are on average four meets per year. Typically up to four participants are allowed per federation and in many cases, one adult per federation can accompany the children.

Details about the year's meets can be found on the UIAA's Web Site under the Youth Commission's activities (http://www.uiaa.ch) or can be obtained from the MCSA Youth Convenor (youth@mcsa.org.za).

The MCSA has already participated in UIAA International Youth meets since 1995 and each time, it had been highly rated by participants. Accounts have been published in the MCSA Journals (or see Past Meets below).

Applications by MCSA youth members or children of MCSA members have to be made via the MCSA and normally close yearly on 31 April. For more information, contact youth@mcsa.org.za. For application forms, see below.
Costs have to be carried by participants themselves as the MCSA unfortunately does not have the financial means to support this. However, an amount of money annually is available from the Centenary Journal Youth Fund.
