"When we reach the mountain summits we leave behind all the things that weigh heavily on our body and our spirit. We leave behind all sense of depression; we feel a new freedom, a great exhilaration of the body no less than the spirit."

Hiking

One of the main activities within the MCSA is hiking, trekking, tramping, walking or whatever one chooses to call it. The sections organise meets for hiking which may range from short day walks in kloofs, or multi-day traverses across remote mountain areas. Best is to check out the programme of the section closest to you to see what they are up to.

Treks are also organised under the auspices of the MCSA to foreign countries.

Representation

The MCSA is represented on the National Hiking Way Board. The Club is also a member of the Department of Transport's SASAR (South African Search and Rescue).
